How our categories are organized

Our web directory uses the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) to organize the web sites into categories.

Although in some cases, the categories available may not seem to fit your business exactly, standard categories make it much easier for visitors to find your site. It also makes it easier for us to create a useful search function, so in addition to the hierarchical navigation, visitors will soon have a way of finding your site using keywords that match the NAICS codes.

The NAICS has replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system.

NAICS is based on a consistent, economic concept. Establishments that use the same or similar processes to produce goods or services are grouped together.

The NAICS is the standard industry classification system used by the statistical agencies of the United States.

The SIC was established to promote uniformity and comparability of data collected and published by agencies within the U.S. government, state agencies, trade associations, and research organizations. It was developed as an establishment based industry classification system that classified each establishment according to its primary activity.

NAICS is a six-digit system that provides for comparability among the US, Canada and Mexico. The SIC was a four-digit system that was not linked in any way to the systems of Canada and Mexico.
